Happy No-Brexit Day! Here’s how we win…

Boris Johnson did not lay down in front of a bulldozer this year, and today he’s not in a ditch either: he has been forced to request an extension to Article 50, which we now have in place until 31 January 2020. Johnson cannot be trusted to keep his word, and it is now time for us to show him the door.

We must now prepare for the General Election.

This is our chance to #StopJohnson and #StopBrexit. Join me in the biggest, most high-profile campaign this constituency has ever faced. We can do this, and we must. Together, we will take this fight to both the Prime Minister and Momentum’s candidate.

How can we win?

Reputable sources indicate that the Brexit Party do intend to stand in Uxbridge and South Ruislip. It may even be Mr Farage. This will split the far right vote, and indications are that some soft, more centrist Tories will vote for me, as a Liberal, centre, centre-left, and local, candidate.

Momentum are for a Labour-negotiated Brexit (“Lexit”).  Speaking with constituents over the last few months, it is clear that many pro-EU Labour voters are willing to vote for me too.

All independent and community leader candidates have agreed to step aside and support me, and I will detail these supporters in forthcoming communications with you.

For now, we have announced the Renew Party as a locally agreed, independent Remain Alliance partner. I am delighted that we are receiving their support, and they will be offering us activists to help on the campaign trail too.

I am the only demonstrably Remain candidate in Uxbridge and South Ruislip, and I have, independently, worked hard to forge alliances to enable this to happen.

So, with the hard right and hard left candidates taking votes, I can, as it were, walk straight up the middle, as a middle-ground, reasonable, pro-Remain candidate, and so take this seat from under Johnson.

My professional profile also supports my position as the strongest candidate: I have devoted my entire career to tackling hate speech and challenging the use of political spin in the media. I have also designed and delivered numerous social cohesion events in seat and across Europe, bringing people together to celebrate the benefits of multiculturalism, where we embrace our diversity and explore our common humanity.

After all, it is only through dialogue and experience that we can build the bridges much needed to heal society in the wake of the divisive EU Referendum and its on-going aftermath.

How can I help?

Posters

An important part of this campaign is to persuade wavering voters we really can win here!

A large presence of our diamond garden posters shouting their support for our party can be very influential. Let’s ensure they are visible, right across the constituency.

If you are willing to have us put one in your front garden or window, please reply to this email to let us know. We can put up garden signs, and will do so c. 3 weeks before the election and then collect promptly, after the election. If you’d like window posters, please let us know how many you’d like delivered to you.

Canvassing and Delivering Leaflets

If you would like to help by joining the roster to canvas or deliver leaflets – as part of our independent Remain Alliance team, then please contact me direct at elizabeth@hillingdonlibdems.org.uk. Whatever time you can offer, we will find slots to suit your availability. Let’s be seen and heard like never before!

Let’s be the change we want to see in politics. I will put our constituency first, and will bring kindness and a local, listening ear back into how we do politics at a local and national level.

Accommodation

We have a disabled activist looking for temporary accommodation during the campaign period. If you can help with this, please do let me know.

We can do this! Our time is now.
